Stock-piling and modification - Rossauer Laende 47 - 49, Vienna, Austria

This is a renovation and modification project of an existing office building that is going to be turned into a mixed functional use structure.
The location of the building is at an important intersection and bridge area of Rossauer Laende, which is characterized by large-scale visual relationships. From a city design aspect, the existing, unattractive building block with raster facade forms a gate-type situation to the Inner City.
The renovation takes a consequent approach to accentuating the facade. The structure receives a new “cover.”  Lamellae in various colours are attached to the facade. They change the facade depending from which angle one looks at it. The entire facade image varies for the viewer while passing by or driving by. At the same time, the lamellae serve as sun protection making blinds obsolete.
It was done purposefully not to enlarge the dormers and to attach bays in order to create a unified structure. The attic conversion is intentionally low key. The large volume of this corner building is distinctive. It no longer appears static due to the new facade. The attic conversion appears as emphasized corner visible from afar.
