Roof-type stock-piling – Spitalgasse 25, Vienna, Austria

This project has experienced a widely debated upon response in the public. The Austrian Community for Architecture (ÖFGA) as well as the Center for Architecture in Vienna have conducted a tour, the result of which was heavily debated upon. 'Would the building of an object on top of a historic building really be necessary?' Jan Tabor deliberated and answered with his statement:'brutally genious'. We will take his word and our project is to launch.

Architectually speaking our project is considered a seperate building built on top of the exisiting house. However, when resorting to the building lease, this object is labeled as an extended construction of the existing attic. This innovative construction will break through the limits of view that are usually present in loft constructions.

The aparatmens, which are partially two-storied, will take advantage of the exterior form for gallery floors and the available airspace, and thus available views between the planes. All aparmtents will be facing the street and the courtyard. The apartments offer great views over the city as well as nearby attractions such as the Arne-Carlsson Park. In addition, the apartments will take in the soothing calmness of the inner courtyard.

The open rooms as well as the significant form provide for a new way of living above the rooftops. All the primary walls will be designed in wooden panels. The entire project has been accomplished in cooperation with the acclaimed carpentry of Osttirol. It has been prepared from seperate elements in Osttirol and compiled within 14 days on top of the rooftop. The outer wooden layer is weather-proof due to the light blue coating applied which consists of elastomer polyester (Kemperol V210).
